Introduction to heat treatment of juye steering ball head pin

The ball head pin is used to complete the steering function in the steering rod, which is an important security component to complete the driving and steering functions of the vehicle. The material and heat treatment method of the ball pin are related to the life and safety of the product. juye is made of 40Cr steel, which is one of the most widely used alloy steels at present [Table 1]. It has high strength and good plasticity and toughness [Table 2]. The ball pin made of 40Cr steel is an important connection part of the automobile, and its mechanical properties have higher requirements. 

Juye uses UG three-dimensional simulation of ball pins, and the grid division model is shown in Figure 1. The changes of 40Cr ball pin during quenching are shown in Figure 2. Three points P1, P2 and P3 are selected along the ball pin from the surface to the heart, and these three points are taken as examples to illustrate the changes in temperature, structure and stress of 40Cr ball pin during quenching.

The simulation results of temperature field can be reflected by the cloud map of temperature change inside the workpiece, as shown in Figure 3. It can be seen from Figure 3 and Figure 4 that the temperature of the central part of the ball pin is higher than that of the edge part, and the outer part begins the martensitic transformation first, but as the temperature of the central part reaches the beginning point of martensitic transformation, the internal and external temperatures gradually converge.
